Agent 47 is always lurking in the dark corners of our gaming psyche.
Keen-eyed Hitman fans may have noticed that Hitman: Contracts (the third in the series) has only just launched on Steam (21 January) for $6.99. The reason was because of licensing issues with a song in the game – “Immortal” by Clutch.
Coupling this launch with the news of his impending globe-trotting next-gen AAA Hitman outing, it seems like a good time for Steam to offer the Hitman franchise in their Midweek Madness sale for an 80% discount.
Below are the pricing options:
- Hitman: Codename 47 – $1.39
- Hitman 2: Silent Assassin – $1.39
- Hitman: Blood Money – $1.79
- Hitman: Absolution – $4.99
- Grab the whole lot for $8.99.
So the question is, which Hitman game is the best of the bunch? This is obviously rather subjective in many respects, so I encourage you to leave your thoughts in the comments below.
For an empirical measure, we turn to Metacritic for averaged ratings on the PC versions of the game. I’ve included user ratings, as these often reflect the general opinion of the ‘gamer on the street’. The highest rated in each category is highlighted in bold.
| PC game | Release date | Metacritic rating | User score |
| Hitman: Codename 47 | November 2000 | 73 | 75 |
| Hitman 2: Silent Assassin | October 2002 | 87 | 81 |
| Hitman: Contracts | April 2004 | 74 | 79 |
| Hitman: Blood Money | May 2006 | 82 | 88 |
| Hitman: Absolution | November 2012 | 79 | 68 |
So it turns out that critics were most impressed with Hitman 2 on PC, while gamers were enamoured with Hitman: Blood Money. So, if you’re looking to grab one of these classics, those are good starting points.

I still play Silernt Assassin every now and then. Awesome game. I’ve played every single one and loved SA, enjoyed Blood Money Immensely but If I have to say which is best, it must be absolution.
I don’t understand its low score, it is a brilliant game, sure its got flaws but so does the rest.
