Best 5 games based on movies

Last week I went through some of the worst games based on movies, so this week I have decided to pay tribute to some of the best games based on movies.

Peter Jackson’s King Kong (2005)

The game is based on one of the best movies I have ever seen; Peter Jackson’s King Kong video game was a triumph.

An FPS with great visuals, gameplay and a mixture of survival horror and the most intense action sequences of the era.

Everything about this game was amazing, from Kong’s playable stages to Jack’s fast paced, quick thinking action scenes.

With a score of 80/100 from Metacritic, it’s sad that developers didn’t use this game as the foundation for future movie based titles, because we would never experience another bad one.

Die Hard Trilogy (1996)

Die Hard Trilogy is the game based on the first three Die Hard movies. At the time you could have called this game a collection – three games with three different play styles.

The first is your normal run n’ gun and blowing up terrorists affair. The second is a rail shooter based in an airport; you proceed through the game blowing up terrorists. The third was a driving-based game where you drove a taxi through New York, and in an ingenious twist, blow up terrorists.

Three action packed games with great value for its day, it scored 7.5 from IGN.

Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay (2004)

12 hours of sneaky stealth action, a great hand to hand combat system, all set in a well imagined world, Escape From Butcher Bay surprised a lot of people with its great story set outside of the movie base.

The game looked amazing for its time, with superb voice acting and cinematics that could rival some titles today.

Escape from Butcher bay scored 87 on Metacritic.

GoldenEye 007 (1997)

There are not many games that receive extremely high scores like 9.7 from IGN or 96 from Metacritic. GoldenEye 007 on the Nintendo 64 was the greatest accomplishment of its time.

GoldenEye shows us today that it is possible to have a great single player game and an addictive multiplayer component without compromising on either mode.

GoldenEye was a gem; its highly detailed stages and open world objectives made it a step forward in the right gaming direction.

Everything about it had the James Bond feel; the sound effects and music were top notch, the missions were well planned, and the gameplay was one of a kind.

Aladdin (1993)

Ah Aladdin, who doesn’t remember this great platformer? It stood amongst the greatest Disney games of the day, such as The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, and The Jungle Book.

Vibrant visuals, an awesome soundtrack, and smooth gameplay, Aladdin on the Genisis was a great game. There have been debates about which of the two versions was the better; the SNES or the Genesis, but according to reviews and my own experience, the Genesis version looked and played better.

It was also crammed full of mini games; dodging jars, genie slots, throwing apples at the guards, and let’s not forget the carpet riding levels. Well deserving of its 80/100 rating on IGN.
