inFAMOUS: Second Son- All the info you need

22 March 2014

inFamous: Second Son releases today, 21 March 2014, and I am one excited lad. This is definitely the biggest PS4 game of the month, and possibly since the console’s launch in December 2013.

Particle effects, amazing reflections, sub-surface scattering, this is a truly next-gen title. Here is everything you ever wanted to, or will need to, know about the game and Delsin’s powers. For good measure, I have thrown in some awesome gameplay videos.

The Basics

  • The game is set in a Seattle
  • The game takes places 7 years after the “good” events of inFamous 2
  • Delsin Rowe is the protagonist
  • The choices between good and evil will be harder to make
  • You can now shoot without aiming
  • Aiming is now done with the L2 and R2 buttons
  • You absorb smoke by touching the DualShock 4’s touchpad
  • Objects that are destroyed stayed destroyed for the duration of the game
  • The game does not have a multiplayer component, nor user generated content
  • The game runs in 1080p @ 30 FPS
  • Delsin can absorb some enemy attacks to fuel his powers
  • Each power has different variations
  • You can use the touchpad to perform stealth attacks
  • Destroying a vehicle will result in it smoking, allowing Delsin to absorb the smoke

The Neon Power

  • Used for distance shooting and precise powerful attacks
  • Neon Beam deals high damage, taking out targets in one or two shots, perfect for sniping enemies
  • Although powerful, it has a low rate of fire
  • Delsin can use Neon Dash to climb buildings quickly and dash through the air
  • Delsin can increase his jumping ability, making it easier to jump from rooftop to rooftop
  • Neon Cannonball knocks over enemies
  • Neon Power has a thruster similar to that of Cole’s Thrusters, allowing Delsin to glide
  • Neon Grenade lifts enemies into the air in slow motion
  • Charged Shot can destroy buildings
  • Neon Chain allows Delsin’s melee weapon to become rigid, wielding it like a sword

The Smoke Power

  • Used for up close combat, and quick and strong attacks
  • Smoke Bomb resembles a fireball – it shoots quickly but has a low damage output
  • A bolt can be charged by holding down R2, or tap it to shoot faster, less powerful blots
  • Smoke Dash turns Delsin into a cloud of smoke and embers, allowing for a small flying dash, similar to Cole’s Firebird Strike
  • Smoke Dash can be used to dash through buildings, openings, vents, and fences
  • Smoke Thruster is the smoke version of Neon Thrusters, allowing Delsin to glide
  • Sulphur Bombs cover enemies in a cloud of smoke, incapacitating them
  • The Smoke power super-heats Delsin’s chain, creating strong swipes and embers upon impact

Here are some gameplay videos for your viewing pleasure.

So what do you think? Are you going to get yourself a copy of the game? Let us know in the comments and forum.
