Those nightmarish creatures…

There are some freaky creatures in gaming – and the machinations which inspired them are too twisted to fathom.

Here are some of the amazing – and terrifying – creatures and characters from games that we, as gamers, will always remember.

The Rotten – Dark Souls 2

One of the most creative bosses in Dark Souls 2 comes in the form of a blob of human corpses.

The Rotten has a human for a hand and walks around with the help of the corpses at its base that crawl along the floor.

As The Rotten moves, you can see the arms of the corpses waving while the screams of the undead emerge from its core. Well done, Dark Souls 2. I am afraid.

The Gaping Dragon – Dark Souls

The Gaping Dragon is as epic as dragons get.

This beast may look like a normal dragon, besides its tiny head, but its mouth is made up of rows and rows of long, sharp teeth situated along its belly.

Its name says its all, and when you face this beast, prepare to battle its gaping jaws of death.

Scarlet – Silent Hill

I have two fears: porcelain dolls and spiders. The Scarlet Doll in Silent Hill was both of them, combined into one terrifying being.

This creature has two forms: one with armour and one without. Once you have shattered its protective layer she becomes a spider-like freak of nature.

Don’t get me wrong, Scarlet is beautiful in a twisted kind of way; but her spidery features, snake-like hissing, and dozens of sharp teeth strike fear into the heart of most gamers. At least she wore shoes.

The Nurse – Silent Hill

The Nurse has to be the most iconic enemy in the the Silent Hill franchise. This freaky woman just stands there, waiting for you to make the first move, and when you do she slowly starts twitching her way towards you.

Although she is not hard to kill, that twitching motion and slashing knife is quite intimidating. She did have a sweet rack, though, right?

Nemesis – Resident Evil

Who didn’t freak out when they saw this piece of work?

The gigantic abomination with his snarling mouth, rocket launcher, and imposing size scared the wits out of anyone who crossed him.

Nemesis is an icon in the Resident Evil, the nightmare of PS One days, and it’s a shame we haven’t seen him in recent releases.
