Piracy through torrent sites is never a good thing, but what the illegal sharing of games does is let us know is which titles are desired most by the consumer who has no desire to pay for something that was tirelessly worked on by teams of dedicated developers.
Making an appearance high up on most of the lists is Goat Simulator, a sand-box game which its own developers said was the “worst idea” they ever had. The fact the game is only 10$ (around R100) did not seem to deter the pirates either.
Piracy has always been a massive bugbear for many in the gaming industry – particularly with PC gaming – with large developers and publishing houses lamenting lost revenue and investment in the industry due to pirates. Ubisoft claims that its titles face a 90% piracy rate, while others developers, such as Valve, say piracy is a service issue, and thanks to Steam, a non-issue for the company.
Whatever your personal views on piracy, with so many digital gaming deals constantly going on, it’s tough to imagine why it’s even necessary.
We visited some of the top torrent sites – don’t try this at work – to find out which PC games are being seeded most. Below is a top 10 list from each site.
