We have been spoilt for choice in recent years when it comes to superhero video games. There are a ton of great games featuring our favourite villain-slayers, of which Batman must be at the top at the moment – but there are also some that are best forgotten.
These are the worst superhero video games ever made.
Aquaman: Battle for Atlantis
“This is a budget title that’s not worth its cheap price” – IGN
Aquaman is not the most famous superhero out there, and I doubt he has many fans. Part of the reason for this is because he starred in one of the worst games I have ever laid my eyes on: Aquaman: Battle for Atlantis.
Almost every game has a water level, and they are universally loathed. This disaster consisted of an entire underwater world with 11 different enemies, stiff controls, and combat mechanics that put you to sleep.
This game was dull, a complete waste of money to develop, and should have been left in the depth of the oceans where it belonged.
Superman Returns
“Superman Returns is so criminally lacking in any inspiration and is such a dismal waste of the licence that you’ll want to curl up and rock yourself into a trance” – Eurogamer
Most of us love Superman, and I still watch the classic movies every now and then. When it comes to his games, though, you should steer well clear.
Superman Returns might have a well imagined world, and thoughtfully crafted locations, but the story and character development was a complete fail.
The battles were monotonous, the enemies were boring, and the gameplay left you longing for something more. Maybe it has something to do with that Superman curse. Or maybe it was just a terrible game.
Catwoman
“An epic disaster of a game derived from a movie that simply shouldn’t exist in the first place.” – IGN
Let’s be honest, Halle Berry looked fantastic in a Catwoman outfit, but that is about all the game – and the film – had to offer.
The combat left much to be desired, the camera angles were frustrating beyond words, and even once you had finished the games you had not mastered the controls. This game belongs in the litter box.
Superman 64
“Do not buy this piece of garbage.”- IGN
Superman games are so terrible they get two mentions on this list (there must be something to that curse). Anyway, I am sure the man of steel can handle the criticism.
Superman 64 was a graphical disaster, had a terrible frame-rate, and was delivered to your eyes in a letterbox. Granted, the game was made a while ago, but that is no excuse for the terrible visuals, unresponsive controls, and dull atmosphere.
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
“This game is literally you punching as your favourite member of the Fantastic Four for hours on end.” – IGN
An average level in this game consisted of goofy dialogue and then relentless punching of anything that got in your way. That was it, the whole game. What a waste of time and money.
