What went down in April

2014 is just flying by with April already done and dusted. This past month we were given release dates, received some breaking news, were told of delays, and had to sift through which games were worth playing and which were not.

Here are the highlights, and lowlights, of the month gone by.

New Games Announcements

Skylanders Trap Team was revealed, with new toys to bankrupt parents coming later this year to the PS4, PS3, Wii, Wii U, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

Assassins Creed Unity was revealed just days after a few screenshots were leaked, with the new title set to make waves on the next-gen consoles.

Borderlands the Pre-sequel is happening, and coming to PS3 and Xbox 360 later this year. The latest game is a prequel to the events of Borderlands 2 and will give gamers four new playable classes. It will also give Gearbox another chance to drain our pockets with lots and lots of DLC.

The Last of Us for PS4 is coming soon, dubbed The Last of Us Remastered. The game will include all add-ons and DLC from the PS3 title.

Release Dates

Dragon Age Inquisition will be here on 8 October 2014 for PC, Xbox One, and PS4.

Drive Club races onto PS4 on 8 October 2014.

Transistor is dated for a 20 May 2014 release on PS4 and PC.

Tropico 5 will release on 23 May 2014 for PC.

Good Reviews

Goat Simulator was an interesting game, and did not score too badly with the critics. It knew its place, did not take itself seriously, and allowed you to be a goat. That’s okay in our books. The game is sitting on a respectable 62 on Metacritic.

Child of Light did very well with the critics, and the PS3 version scored a 90 on Metacritic, based on 29 reviews.

Trials Fusion released to positive reviews, and scored an overall 80 on Metacritic.

Tech News

PS4 update 1.7 finally landed and brings with it welcomed improvements and features like the ability to dim the lightbar on your control and copy videos and screenshots to USB.

The Good

Assassins Creed sells 73 million copies worldwide since the beginning of the franchise back in 2007.

A new Mario 3D is in development according to EDGE Magazine. Yoshiaki Koizumi told the magazine that they have “approached their next challenge”, but it is a secret…for now.

Pokémon X and Y sells 12 million copies since launch.

The Bad

No Nintendo at E3…again. Instead they will host a digital event showcasing what they have in store for the future.

Daylight didn’t shine bright when it came to the reviews. Is is setting on 53 on Metacritic.

Mad Max is delayed until 2015.

Dice admits Battlefield 4 is still broken, 127 days after its release.

Super Smash Bros on the Wii U still has no release date. We only know that the 3DS version will launch in summer in the US, and the Wii U version will launch in winter in the US.
