With the Xbox One due to arrive in South Africa on 23 September 2014, fans of Microsoft’s console have already started budgeting for the device, and the necessary games.
The console is expected to retail for R6,299 without the Kinect, while the full bundle will cost you R7,999.
These prices are very similar to what the PlayStation 4 or an entry level gaming PC costs in SA.
The only question left is: how much will games cost?
We visited a number of online retailers and from what we saw, Kalahari.com were the cheapest overall, and had the most variety in terms of cross-platform titles, which gave us consistency when comparing prices.
We selected 10 cross-platform titles, and tabulated how much they would cost according to platform. The results are below.

As we can see, Xbox One and PS4 games are very similarly priced across the board, with PC games substantially cheaper. Whether these prices will remain the same, drop, or increase as we get closer to the local Xbox One launch remains to be seen.
