Did you know there is a Guinness World Record for “most swearing in a video game”? Well, there is, and it sits alongside other gaming specific records that you may have never heard of – here are some of the more interesting ones.
Most swearing in a video game
Mafia 2 holds the record for the most F-bombs dropped in a game – over 200 times. With the likes of Grand Theft Auto and South Park in existence, this is not a feat to be scoffed at. The following video contains some eloquent examples of the word’s use in the game.
The most cover-featured video game
Assassin’s Creed 2 is the super model of the gaming world, featuring on the cover of 127 magazines in 32 countries according to Guinness. The streak of cover appearances took place between April 2009 and April 2010. Ubisoft must be so proud.
Most in-game marriages
Rift holds the record for the most marriages in a 24 hour period. The action went down on Valentine’s Day 2012, with 21,879 couples tying the knot. That’s a lot of digital confetti.
Most dialogue in a single-player RPG
Although not the best post-apocalyptic game in recent years, Fallout: New Vegas holds the record for its long, long dialogue. With 65,000 lines of recorded speech, it earned it.
Longest cutscene in a video game
Metal Gear Solid 4 was a triumph, with its crazy story, fantastic direction, and its ability to let you relax for extended periods of time while you sat back and watched mini-length films. One of the scenes in MGS 4 stood above the rest, though, lasting a record 27 minutes.
The video game to gross $1 billion the quickest
No prizes for guessing the game here – it’s Grand Theft Auto 5. The Rockstar hit not only beat out other games, but blockbuster movies like The Avengers in the race to $1 billion (±R10.7 billion). With a PS4, PC, and Xbox One version due out later this year, expect the moola to keep on rolling in.
