Don’t feel bad that you don’t have a PS4 yet, or won’t be buying the Xbox One when it launches in SA – there are plenty of solid titles still coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2014.
Here are some of the games you can look forward to.
Borderlands The Pre-Sequel (Xbox 360, PS3) October 2014
You can rub this game in the PS4’s face, as it won’t be coming to the next-gen console. Everything you love about the franchise is returning: a few million guns, over-the-top enemies, explosions, and more guns. Play as Athena the Gladiator, Wilhelm the Cyborg, Nisha the Lawbringer, and Claptrap the Claptrap, as you explore the Moon.
Far Cry 4 (Xbox 360, PS3) – November 2014
What has been shown of Far Cry 4 so far sure looks great. Set in the Himalaya mountains, the game sees you fighting against another crazy villain, Min, among the picturesque mountaintops. New vehicles and guns, ridable elephants, and co-op play awaits in the latest instalment from Ubisoft.
Destiny (Xbox 360, PS3) –September 2014
My most anticipated game of the year is just around the corner. Destiny is going to be massive, featuring a huge universe to explore, tons of guns, beautiful environments, and freaky enemies factions.
Forza Horizon 2 (Xbox 360) – September 2014
Microsoft’s racer is coming to the Xbox 360 in September. Built on the original Forza Horizon engine and developed by Sumo Digital, this racer will bring back the open-world Forza we fell in love with. Hundreds of cars to choose from, epic race events, and the Lamborghini Huracan – I can’t wait.
LittleBigPlanet 3 (PS3) – November 2014
Play as Sackboy and his new friends, Toggle, Swoop, and Oddsock, in this much-loved PlayStation title. The new playable characters add a depth to the game mechanics, and you will be able to perform new abilities with them throughout your adventure. You can also play all the stages created on LittleBigPlanet, and LittleBigPlanet 2.
Alien: Isolation (Xbox 360, PS3) – October 2014
Returning to the classic Alien horror is what the guys at The Creative Assembly are aiming for. Alien: Isolation is set 15 years after the events of the original Alien, and the game follows Amanda who is investigating the disappearance of her mother, Ellen Ripley.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (Xbox 360, PS3) – November 2014
The latest Call of Duty is taking the franchise in a “new” direction with a futuristic spin. Smarter enemies, robots, giant tanks with legs, and a brand new arsenal – Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is the reboot that the franchise was in dire need of.
Dragon Age: Inquisition (Xbox 360, PS3) – October 2014
RPG fans rejoice – Dragon Age: Inquisition is coming to take over your life, and it looks absolutely stunning. Taking on the role of the leader of the Inquisition, building forces and fortresses as you travel throughout the gigantic open-world, and slaying dragons with some friends. What more do you need in life?
Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor (Xbox 360, PS3) – October 2014
The Lord of the Rings franchise is spawning another spin off, this time coming in the form of Shadow of Mordor. This sequel to the trilogy is all about stealth, acrobatics, and mind control, as you turn the forces of Lord Sauron against him. The Nemesis system allows enemies to remember their past encounters with you and hold grudges until you meet them again.
Battlefield Hardline (Xbox 360, PS3) – October 2014
Cops vs. robbers is what the latest Battlefield is all about. You play either as the lawbreakers, stealing money and creating destruction in your path, or as the law enforcers stopping the destructive criminals. The game promises epic episodic campaign missions, and great multiplayer matches.
The Evil Within (Xbox 360, PS3) – October 2014
Shinji Mikami will take you on a trip into your own fears with The Evil Within, bringing classic horror back to the gaming industry. Box-Headed freaks, spider people, traps galore, and nowhere to hide – scary stuff.
