Gaming’s greatest speedruns

Are you looking for a challenge, more specifically, a gaming challenge? Then we have you covered – you can break a speedrun record.

Here are some of gaming’s greatest speedruns – how many can you conquer?

Super Meat Boy – 1:27:50

Super Meat Boy is one of the more challenging platformers out there, but that did not stop gamers trying to smash the title in record time. Takujiz completed the game in just under one and a half hours, beating the old record of 1:47:36.

Portal – 8:31

We all know about the epic Portal speedrun that took over 8 minutes to complete. No cheats, hacks, or mods were used and the game was made to look like child’s play – not to mention a lot of it was done going backwards.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time – 22:38

Originally, the record for the Ocarina of Time was two and a half hours, but that was slashed by Cosmo who completed the game in a fraction of the time. Hopping and skipping through the game is clearly the secret here, plus exploiting glitches.

Dark Souls 2 – 17:51

Dark Souls 2 recently fell victim to an extreme glitch speedrun, in which someone completed the entire game in just under twenty minutes. This is a crazy way to finish a game, and I do not take it seriously – it’s actually an embarrassment to call it a speedrun.

Half Life – 20:41

Yes, someone runs through the entire Half Life experience in twenty minutes, for serial. Doing it in this record time takes some serious practice, and several hundred litres of Red Bull.

Halo Combat Evolved – 1:16:43

Normally the hardest difficulty leaves you dying repeatedly in a game, not finishing it in record time. Not for this guy, who finished Halo on Legendary in just over an hour.

Left 4 Dead – 1:22:52

A speedrun is one thing, but a co-op speedrun has to be one of the hardest things to pull off. Your entire team needs to be on point and in tune with one another – routes and tactics are key. This team of zombie slayers showed us how it’s done.

Super Mario Bros. – 4:57

How quickly can you beat Super Mario Bros.? If your answer is under five minutes, then you could take the recently set world record. No cheating, though.

Have you ever attempted a speedrun? Let us know how it went, in the comments and forum.

    Dark Souls 2 – 17:51 ?
Can barely call that a speed run as you are using an exploit within the game. Sure it’s there, but it’s not how the game was intended to be played. Just my opinion… meh
