With the recent announcement of Tekken 7 and Mortal Kombat X, we thought it would be fitting to take a look back at some of the better fighting games that the sands of time have given us.
Enjoy.

Set directly after the events of Calamity Trigger, Continuum Shift was everything you loved about the past game with some new added features, new character art, new characters, and some revamped character skins.
Continuum Shift was one of the best looking fighters of its age thanks to its beautiful artwork and great character creations. Even now the game still rocks.
Super Street Fighter IV

The definitive edition of Street Fighter was number IV. The game received multiple changes – from new stages to new game modes – along with 35 characters. Overall, it was a solid title to play, and did well in the market – selling over 4 million copies.
Tekken Tag Tournament 2
- Developers: Bandai Namco Games
- Release: September 2012
- Metacritic: 83
The eighth installment of the Tekken series was originally released on arcade machines in Japan, but its popularity saw it given a full console release not long after.
The game includes almost every character from all Tekken games – giving it the biggest roster in the series.
It was also the first Tekken to allow a two-fighter tag system, which saw you swap out your fighters on command. Will Tekken 7 surpass Tag Tournament?
Soul Calibur IV

Although there is a fifth installment in the Soul Calibur series, IV was the better game. The mix of Star Wars characters into the regular roster was an excellent addition, and the game also featured a character creation mode for the fist time in the franchise’s history.
