Before South Park: The Stick of Truth, the South Park series was already knee-deep in the world of gaming and its many subcultures.
Whatever was trending, Kyle, Kenny, Stan, and Cartman where quick to get on board and make it just a little bit more awesome.
Here are the best episodes of South Park that were based on games. (Warning: Content may be graphic.)
Make Love, Not Warcraft
World of Warcraft was so popular it even made its way into the lives of small-town mountain folk in mid-west USA. Everyone was having a great time – even Randy got on board – until one evil MMO super-player started killing all the kids’ characters.
The only way to stop him was to firstly level up, form a strong party, and find the Sword of a Thousand Truths. The mix between the “real world” of South Park and the game, combined with the boys’ dedication to conquer their foe, made it one of the best episode to date.
Guitar Queer-O
Stan and Kyle become obsessed with Guitar Hero, and when given the chance to turn pro, the boys don’t hesitate to step into the world of cocaine and sex parties at opulent mansions.
Randy sees and opportunity to get involved in Stan’s life, and offers to teach him how to play an actual guitar. As normal guitars are for old people, he is laughed out of the room and later falls victim to video game addiction.
Well played South Park, well played.
Informative Murder Porn
Do you watch the crime channel a lot? You may addicted to informative murder porn, just like the people of South Park.
The children decide that their parents’ unhealthy fascination with these type of shows must be stopped, and password protect the channels with Minecraft based questions. How do you crack such a password?
You learn to play the game.
The Black Friday
Just before the release of South Park: The Stick of Truth, there were three episodes that revolved around the new generation consoles – the Xbox One and PS4. The episodes had a Game of Thrones feel to them, while Kenny made quite the beautiful Japanese princess.
Although the issue of a lack of cross-platform play was raised, the highlight had to be Bill Gates and Sony’s CEO Kaz Hirai fighting to the death for control of gamers’ wallets.
Best Friends Forever
After Kenny gets a PSP and walks into oncoming traffic, he is struck with a severe case of being a vegetable. Cartman, who is jealous Kenny got a PSP, takes him off life support, and our little hoodied friend arrives in heaven.
Upon stepping through the pearly gates, Kenny is tasked with defending his new home from the armies of Satan and his PSP skills come in handy. All hail the golden PSP.
Chinpokomon
The Japanese Chinpokomon craze has swept through South Park, children are in a frenzy and want to collect them all. There’s just one problem – it’s a brainwashing programme which coaxes children into bombing Pearl Harbour.
The best part of the episode: the Chinpokomon theme song – super number 1!.
