Solar panel is ridiculous source. You can use it, but in crazy SA prices are abnormal and cost of all equipment will be 10x more than employing 10 blacks to round wheel of generator! 🙂 (and it’s more quiet, BTW 🙂 )
Plus, don’t be fool about batteries – typical life is 4 years and again you need another box! (solar panels degrade too)
If morons in Eskom cannot handle even ready-to-use stations given by “bad apartheid”, believe me, tricks with generators won’t make your life better – monkeys will come again and “share” your values. Invest in immigration – it’s even more smart than investing in weapon 🙂
