Zombie Cow’s sexual edutainment title Privates follows the adventures of a team of condom-helmeted soldiers as they delve into a vagina in order to combat a variety of sexually transmitted diseases. It is a side scrolling action-platform game featuring snazzy visuals and some great humourous writing. The game is divided into five campaigns and at the end of each the soldiers will have to battle an STD boss. Whilst adults might not learn anything new, they will have some rude fun for an hour or so. Note that some users will have to right click on the download link, and choose ‘Save As’ from the context menu – a 95MB download.
Frogatto has proven to be an immensely popular action side-scrolling platform game on the iPhone, and it has now been released (for free!) on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. The game puts players in control of a little frog who can shoot out his tongue in order to snare and then swallow enemies, and then spit them out as a projectile weapon. There are six environments to explore, spread across 30 levels. As players progress there are coins to collect which are used to upgrade Frogatto. The game should offer around 2 hours of gameplay, depending on how ‘completist’ a gamer you are. Expect a download of between 90MB to 100MB depending on your platform of choice.
The innovative TIG Source ‘A Game by its Cover’ competition has produced a number of interesting titles, and Under the Garden is a prime example. It is a 2D sandbox exploration game with a focus on surviving harsh winter elements. Food, wood and supplies must be gathered from the land around. Fire is all important as it restores stamina and acts as a save point as players progress through the game. The main objective is to survive as long as possible, but many things can go wrong, such as falling sick while hunting. Check out the TIG Source forum thread or click the direct download link.
MyGaming’s coffee break pick of the week – Tower of Heaven is a Game Boy styled puzzle platformer that changes gameplay rules as the player progresses. It was originally only available for PC download, but has since been ported to Flash, and is playable through Newgrounds. Among the tweaks and fixes, the Flash version has been updated with a new secret ending (a total of three), new music, achievements, and even a level editor.
Ah, zombies. The eternally viable cannon fodder. It’s morally acceptable to blast these unfortunate humans to chunky bits and pieces because they’re dead already, and obviously have no thoughts and feelings of their own (well, other than thinking about eating brains, and feeling hungry for some brains). Big Pixel Studios knows just how to tap into our eternal zombie hating psyches.
Trapped in London during the inevitable zombie apocalypse, players will have to circle strafe, shoot zombies in the face, and buy weapon and equipment upgrades in order to survive the increasingly violent zombie onslaught. Don’t forget to make friends with a dog with a rocket launcher on its back. The visuals are presented in the customary giant squares of Big Pixel Games, and there is a rocking soundtrack accompanying indiscriminate zombie smiting.
