Excited to try the Oculus Rift? Are you tantalising over its VR capabilities? Well, we have some sad news for you cash strapped peons, you won’t be able to afford the wonders of VR, or at least most of you won’t.
To have the optimal experience with the Oculus Rift, you’ll need to have a PC with very high specifications. Apparently, virtual reality is just too awesome for poor people.
If you consider yourself a fairly average consumer, you might want to look away now.

The specs needed are as follows:
- Nvidia GTX 970 or an AMD R9 290
- Intel i5 4590 or greater
- 8GB+ of RAM
- Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output
- Windows 7 SP1 or newer
- 2x USB 3.0 ports
The final version of the headset will run a 2160×1200 display at 90Hz. For the best experience with the Oculus Rift, you’ll need three times the GPU power required for general 1080p gaming. That’s why we have included a local list of prices and guarantees for GTX 970s:
- Galax GTX 970 EXOC Black Edition, for R4,999 with a 2 year warranty, available at Wootware.
- MSI GTX 970 4GD5T OC, for R5,599 with a 3 year warranty, available at Wootware.
- Asus Strix-GTX970-DC2OC-4GD5, for R5,599 with a 3 year warranty, available at Landmark Computers.
Our heads hurt from just how damn expensive it’s going to be to run an Oculus Rift.
But if you have plenty of cash, why not go ahead and indulge in virtual reality. Or for some of us, it could just be a waste of money. It is up to you.
Never too late to buy a ps4…..
