The one week Eskom decides not to put the country on a strict load shedding schedule we find out South Africa may have bribed its way to winning the right to host the Fifa World Cup in 2010.
Just when we thought we might have a reprieve from being constantly beaten down by power cuts and bad news, Fifa executives past and present who felt the pressure from international investigations admitted SA paid $10 million to ensure its name was in the final envelope.
Objectively, $10 million is not that bad – I thought it would have cost a lot more to win a soccer world cup bid.
Of course SA’s politicians and officials are dishing up the usual batch of excuses, but I am not sure it will work this time around.
This is not some public protector report about Nkandla we are talking about, this is the FBI and Interpol. If you are put on their list, forget leaving the SADC region ever again.
