Make no mistake, Microsoft’s E3 2015 Press Conference impressed, and EA isn’t going to have an easy time following Microsoft or Bethesda.
EA is more focused on community feedback and beta tests, and this is the result:
Mass Effect: Andromeda
EA started off with, perhaps, their most anticipated franchise, Mass Effect. Brief as it was.
The trailer for the new Mass Effect game called Mass Effect: Andromeda showed off a male protagonist travelling across the galaxy in a spaceship that seems eerily familiar.
We were also shown an ongoing battle in an intergalactic battlefield which featured quite prominently. Not much else is known about this new Mass Effect game at this moment in time.
It’s about all new planets, an all new story and more from the Mass Effect universe.
The trailer ended with a “Holiday 2016” release date.
Just by the way, Andromeda is a galaxy in our proximity of space that is approximately 780 kilo parsecs away from Earth.
Need for Speed
The latest iteration of Need for Speed is back to the streets.
It supposedly incorporates the customisation of Underground, the world of Carbon and the narrative of Most Wanted, whatever that means.
Beyond that, it takes place in Ventura Bay, which is 2x the size of Need For Speed: Rivals’ world.
Visually, it looks pretty darn good, particularly the car customisation aspect of Need for Speed.
Built with the Frostbite 3 engine, like everything else from EA, your task is to build reputation and become the ultimate icon.
How your car looks, drives, races and sounds is up to you.
Star Wars: The Old Republic
Fans demanding more Bioware-styled story arcs from The Old Republic will have their prayers answered.
The Old Republic is being taken back to the roots of BioWare style storytelling with a new expansion called Knights of the Fallen Empire.
You will make choices that impact the whole galaxy and Empire going forward.
Expect new companions to recruit and interact with, and the expansion will be free for any and all subscribers to The Old Repubic.
We can’t wait to find out who these brothers are, and why are they kicking the collective butts of both Sith and Jedi alike.
It looks great. It’s unfortunate that Star Wars: The Old Republic’s free-to-play scheme is terrible.
Unravel
Meet Yarnie of Unravel. He’s a little guy with a big heart.
In development by Swedish studio Coldwood Studio, Unravel is, as cheesy as it may sound to you, the threads of love.
Your journey, as Yarnie of course, is to travel on a new journey to new lands.
It’s a rather charming, loveable physics based platformer hat you just have to see.
Unravel is a light-hearted adventure game at its core.
It kind of looks like LittleBigPlanet 2, but without Sackboy and the custom content, or perhaps there will be custom content. We’ll just have to see.
Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2
Go big. Go crazy. Have fun. Garden Warfare 2, just like Garden Warfare 1, is a shooter that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
And for the first time in franchise history, the plants are on the attack.
In this sequel, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2, you’ll be given a number of new ways to play.
The following gameplay footage features a new four player co-op mode, Graveyard Ops.
The goal in Graveyard Ops is to defend against waves of attacking plants as the zombies. It’s four player cooperative and playable in singleplayer.
In fact, as announced by EA, a good majority of Garden Warfare 2 is playable in singleplayer.
You can also transfer almost all unlocks from the first game to the second, as well as expect long term free content updates.
Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare releases in Spring of 2016.
EA Mobile
400, 000 years have been logged in mobile gaming this year alone.
It’s for that reason that EA has announced games like an all new massive Star Wars RPG for mobile phones, Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes. And it spans the entire Star Wars universe.
Minions Paradise, on the other hand, is a simulation fun/theme-park that you might well be interested in.
Mirror’s Edge Catalyst
Mirror’s Edge Catalyst has you asking the question, could a young girl be a catalyst for change in a world with few freedoms and no privacy?
Mirror’s Edge Catalyst is the origin story for Faith, and much like the original game is all about momentum, martial arts prowess and a masterful knowledge of your surroundings.
Releasing on February 23rd, 2016, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst is built using Frostbite 3. What we care about, however, is if the soundtrack lives up to the original’s.
If so, it’ll be a warm welcome return to the universe that’s needed a sequel for quite some time.
Star Wars: Battlefront
Without wanting to take away anything from the other games shown, Star Wars: Battlefront is pretty much the entire reason we watched EA’s Press Conference.
We knew there would be gameplay shown this time around and we just had to see it!
All of the footage to follow is entirely in-engine, all taken from the PS4 and very impressive, to say the least.
The option to play Star Wars: Battlefront against AI, whether alone or in cooperative split-screen, is a feature we weren’t expecting, but is one we like all the same.
Most of all, we love the objective based gameplay, which looks a lot like Battlefield’s asymmetrical mode Rush.
It makes a lot of sense to provide an asymmetrical experience given how different the two opposing factions are. We just hope we get to see new weapon types beyond what we’ve seen in the movies.
As you probably already know, Star Wars: Battlefront releases on November 17th for Xbox One, PS4 an PC.
So what are you most looking forward to from EA’s E3 lineup?
