Tech deals this week

There’s been a lot happening in South Africa over the past week.

Private schools accused of being racist; the government explaining how a wanted president escaped via private jet from an air force base; and a man remains behind bars after he was caught having sex with a goat.

With regards to Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir flying out of Waterkloof Air Force base recently despite a court order preventing him doing so, the powers that be have explained how it happened: the immigration officer did not see his passport.

The explanations goes something like this: a group of people rocked up at the base, said they were flying out of the country on al-Bashir’s jet, gave a batch of passports – none of which were al-Bashir’s – and left.

I’m no Sherlock Holmes, but I would think that the little photos in the passports would be checked against the faces of those getting onto the departing plane.

The again, maybe al-Bashir was hidden in a carry-on bag, or wearing a fake moustache and glasses – those disguises can be pretty tricky to see through.
