The next Call of Duty should be underwater

Call of Duty

Hear us out on this one! Call of Duty is a franchise which has slowly started shedding any semblance of reality.

With Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, futuristic weapons, armour, technology such as advanced military robots and supersoldiers are all the norm.

To boot, the game is even more fun for abandoning the modern setting. Although, obviously Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare did in many ways bring the futuristic setting to Call of Duty.

But we think the next natural step for the franchise would be to head underwater. Let us take the ludicrousness to whole new levels. We think it would be amazing.

Laser sharks are the answer

Imagine it a Call of Duty underwater with the same gameplay mechanics as Black Ops 3 and improved visuals.

However, many of the maps would be in underwater environments like a submarine, undersea cavern systems and submerged ship wrecks.

The best weapon at your disposal are laser sharks. Each team have a limited number of laser sharks at their disposal each round. One player controls the chosen laser shark and chaos ensues.

You literally become Jaws, except with the power of Dr. Evil strapped to your head and the promise of underwater killing sprees to wet your deadly appetite.

Harpoon guns are your friends

Moving Call of Duty into water does have the downside of guns not working as they do on land. You do get underwater firearms and rifles that work using projectiles that were mainly manufactured during the Cold War.

There’s  even a section in Call of Duty: Ghosts involving undersea combat and gunplay. But we’d abandon logic and reason for this Call of Duty.

What about introducing harpoon guns, spear guns and even anchors for melee combat? The end result could be fun and hilarious. Skewering opponents with a harpoon gun and shouting, “Get over here!” is the kind of gameplay experience we’re thinking of.

Armour upgrades consisting of diving suits and scuba gear are also possibilities to be included. Except limitations on air and restrictions on movement may have to be implemented if these were to be introduced.

Breathing in general may be a whole other problem altogether. We reckon that incorporating an air tank of some kind for each player may be a solution, which would add a survival element to the game.

Or we could apply genetic modifications to players giving them the ability to breathe underwater. There are a number of routes to take here.

Fishmen trump zombies

Instead of a zombie mode, this Call of Duty has a fishmen mode where you’re stranded on a Russian Cold War-era submarine heading further and further into the depths of the Atlantic Ocean.

The catch is that the submarine is malfunctioning because of fishmen, think Cthulhu-inspired monsters here, attacking the vessel.

The submarine was in search of the lost City of Atlantis and unknowingly you and your crew awoke a group of fishmen.

You are now forced to try and keep the attacking fishmen at bay by maintaining and repairing damage to entry points in your immediate surroundings.

Here you’ll be able to use weapons, upgrade them, get boosts and obtain some unusual weapons as you progress through the waves of attacking fishmen.

We think this is a unique twist on the famed zombie mode found in previous Call of Duty games.

Ultimately, this Call of Duty would take the franchise to new levels of weirdness, ridiculousness and hilarity.
