Some of our favourite Fallout 4 easter eggs

Fallout 4 is all the rage at the moment with an absurd number of people investing perhaps even more absurd hours into Bethesda’s latest title.

Saying that, there are countless easter eggs in the game that you probably walked past at least a dozen times and had no idea that said object or event was carefully created to reference something in pop culture or in the franchise’s past.

Bethesda are masterminds of creating open world games that are filled with humour and secrets. Here are some of the best Easter Eggs in Fallout 4.

Jaws

Those of you who love classic movies will recall the scene between Quint and the infamous giant shark on his boat, where he gets eaten and pulled into the ocean. We’re talking about Jaws of course.

In Fallout 4, Quint is real, if a bit dead.

You can find him just north of Diamond City in a small boat in a river. Quint is wearing his blue jacket and next to him lies his bandanna and machete, neither of which afforded sufficient protection it seems.

Next to him lies what seems to be a mutated dolphin, which is a much more embarrassing way to go than a giant shark. Poor Quint.

Christmas in Fallout

While not really an easter egg as such, Christmas is celebrated around the world.

When the calendar hits December 25 in Fallout 4, if you head to Diamond City, you will find a rather festive city.

Christmas trees scattered around the city and colourful lights strung around the stalls. There is really nothing else going on other than a few decorations, but who blames them? It is the end of the world; they probably have other things on their mind.

UFO Crash

While I was exploring the Commonwealth, I fast travelled to Abernathy Farms and upon arrival I heard a loud sound overhead.

The sound was followed by a bright blue light and subsequent bang. I followed the trail and came upon a UFO that had crashed landed into the ground.

There was a green trail of blood which I followed into a cave where I found a hostile alien. I killed it and it dropped an extremely, really rather over-powered Alien Blaster with 500 ammunition.

Here is a video showcasing the event. It is important to note that you do not need to complete Vault 75 like the video suggests; it happens either way.

This is not surprising as UFOs have always been a staple mechanic in past Fallout titles, with Fallout 3 receiving a dedicated DLC pack for the game based on the Mothership Zeta.

Although in Fallout 3, the ship can be found in a ditch, whereas in Fallout 4 we actually get to witness the crash, which looks pretty spectacular by the way.

The Alien Blaster is a great weapon, but it does have its downfalls; it can only use Alien Blaster ammo. You can, however, modify it to use laser rounds, but you need science level 4 to do so.

Toy Story Monkey

I have no idea if this is just pure coincidence or if there is some sort of history behind this monkey toy in Fallout 4.

In Fallout 4, you will come across a crazed monkey toy that bangs its cymbals when you are near it.

Raiders, as well as a particularly terrifying radscorpion, use this monkey as a trap to alert them when an intruder is close by.

You will basically hate this toy in the game because not only is it helluva freaky, but it ruins your plans for a silent approach.

While playing the game, I tried to remember where I had seen this terrifying toy, and then it hit me.

This monkey was the same psycho monkey that tried to pull Woody apart in Toy Story, and it was the same monkey that appeared in Call of Duty: Black Ops II Zombies as a Monkey Bomb.

People say that this monkey was an actual toy that was manufactured in real life, so there could be no link at all between the three references, at least until we hear Bethesda’s say on the monkey matter.

Take the G.O.A.T Test

In the early parts of the game you might come across a small town called “Covenant”.

Before you can enter this town you are asked to complete a “quick” questionnaire that will determine if you are allowed to enter the town or not.

Some of you might remember this test as it is the same test that appeared in Fallout 3.

The G.O.A.T test, also known as the Generalised Occupational Aptitude Test, is the same test that players took during Fallout 3’s intro to determine their initial skill points.

Pip-Boy games

In Fallout 4, you can load holotapes into your Pip-boy and play recordings that have been taped on them.

Another great feature of the Pip-boy is the ability to load up games, also known as the Robco Fun Comic Books, each coming with their own holotape game.

Now just to note that every holotape game you come across in the game is basically a direct copy of a classic game from real life, but with a Fallout theme.

You get Pipfall, which is a copy of Pitfall; Red Menace copies Donkey Kong, and there are a number of others. We should also probably point out that any games discovered can be played on your Pip-boy Companion App.

So there you have some of the Easter Eggs you can find in Fallout 4. Have you come across any others while exploring the commonwealth? Let us know in the comments and forum.
