While the annual Video Game Awards show is a great platform to appreciate the effort and creative talent of video game developers, having awarded the best games of 2015, it’s also a key opportunity for publishers to unleash some big game announcement and trailers.
While we’ve covered a few of these announcements in greater detail, we thought we’d round up all of the trailers and reveals, so that you don’t get left in the dark:
Batman – A Telltale Game Series
Telltale has revealed that they’re working on a Batman game.
During The Game Awards 2015, Telltale premiered a brief teaser trailer that acted as a tone piece for the series.
This iteration of Batman will give fans a first-hand opportunity to dive deeper into the complex life and mind of Bruce Wayne, the duality of his own identity and the struggle of responsibility in saving a city overcome with corruption and villainy.
The Walking Dead: Michonne
Telltale Games have taken it upon themselves to continue to pump out more Walking Dead games.
Their latest take on the popular series, from creator Robert Kirkman, focuses on the samurai-sword wielding zombie killer, Michonne.
The trailer for the game shows off some of the people Michonne will come across as well as a few of the locations she visits and the zombies she kills.
Far Cry Primal
One of The Game Award’s biggest coups of the night was the first proper gameplay footage from Ubisoft’s Far Cry Primal.
It reveals that one of the key abilities of player character Takkar is that he can tame wild animals like sabre-toothed tigers and owls.
You can guess for yourself which you can ride into battle and which is used purely for scouting.
Rise Of The Tomb Raider DLC – Baba Yaga: Temple Of The Witch
The VGAs was the first chance to see the story expansion for the new Tomb Raider, which like the main game will be a timed Microsoft exclusive until late next year.
The Baba Yaga is a famous witch from Russia folklore and Microsoft are promising hours of new gameplay, enemies, puzzles and tombs when it’s released next January.
Rock Band VR
A virtual reality version of Rock Band just makes sense.
Oculus VR announced Rock Band VR, which will throw you into the shoes of a rock star on stage, giving you the first-person experience of what it’s like to control an audience.
Rocket League on Xbox One
Although it started as a PlayStation 4 and PC game, Rocket League will now be coming to Xbox One in February.
It’ll have all of the same content and features, plus two exclusive cars – one based on Halo and the other on Gears Of War.
Rocket League is basically football played with remote control cars and has become quite the cult hit.
Where The Water Tastes Like Wine
One of the best things about The Game Awards is the way it gives a platform for indie titles just as much as mainstream games, particularly in the case of new release from Gone Home and BioShock 2 developer Johnnemann Nordhagen.
It’s set in the American Deep South in the early part of the 20th century and is described as ‘a bleak American folk tale about travelling, sharing stories, and surviving manifest destiny’.
It’s an intriguing concept, to say the least, and the artwork is just sublime.
Shadow Complex Remastered
Xbox 360’s impressive Metroidvania-inspired game, Shadow Complex, is heading to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 early next year.
Shadow Complex is considered one of the unsung heroes on the last-gen console, and with its jump to the current-gen of consoles, many gamers should have the chance to indulge in this classic.
Mortal Kombat X Pack 2
Four new playable horror-inspired characters will be added in the next DLC pack for Mortal Kombat X, with the headliner of the group being the alien from… Alien.
The Predator was already added with the first DLC, making a match-up between the two a reality.
Oddly, the end of the trailer implies the alien is perhaps some sort of hybrid with Baraka, with Predator style wrist blades.
The other three characters are Leatherface from Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Bo Rai Cho who was briefly featured in the story mode, and new character Tri-Borg – a merged version of Cyrax, Sektor and Robot Smoke.
Star Citizen
Space combat simulator Star Citizen is being called a spiritual sequel to Wing Commander.
The game, which had a massive Kickstarter backing, got a new trailer which features a first look at the Alpha version 2.0 of the game.
Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn
Shaq Fu was an oddball flop back in the 90s, as the worst fighter of all time, and whether or not this sequel is an elaborate joke or not, we’re not sure, but it’s happening.
The crowdfunded Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn got a new trailer, and the beat-em-up follow-up clearly maintains the game’s less than serious tone.
Quantum Break
Despite being one of the first Xbox One games to ever be announced, Quantum Break (from the creators of Max Payne and Alan Wake) is still only inching itself towards its April 2015 release.
As you can see in this new trailer, the game’s third person action revolves around a time travel experiment gone wrong, as you gain the ability to freeze and control time around you.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
One of the most-anticipated trailers of the night was a new spot for Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4.
The new video featured a new character, Nadine Ross, whose involvement in the story is rather unknown at this point, but she clearly wants something from Nathan Drake
