Games you can play this week – survivalists and superheroes

Rise of the Tomb Raider

This week, we get into the real meat of January’s gaming releases with a little something for everybody.

Marvel’s superhero team get their very own blocky adventure, and PC gamers finally get their hands on Lara Croft’s latest adventure, among some other notable releases.

Rise of the Tomb Raider (PC) – January 28

(PC)

The Tomb Raider reboot was a refreshing take on the life and antics of a young Lara Croft, injecting some new blood into a somewhat dying franchise.

Now, finally, PC gamers are getting the chance to play its sequel, Rise of the Tomb Raider, the previously Xbox One exclusive-only title.

We saw Lara go from scared 20-something to becoming an artifact-hunting heroine in the first game.

Rise of the Tomb Raider will continue that journey, as Lara must now explore the most treacherous and remote regions of Siberia to find the secret of immortality before a ruthless organisation known as Trinity.

LEGO Marvel’s Avengers – January 29

(PC, Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, 3DS, Vita)

The Lego games are always silly, light-hearted fun; LEGO Marvel’s Avengers is no exception.

Following the plots of The Avengers films and their many tie-in movies, the game incorporates hundreds of iconic characters from across the Marvel universe.

You can also expect lots of LEGO-inspired puzzles, platforming and exploration as you play through the events of the films.

From Sokovia to Tony Stark’s Miami mansion, LEGO Marvel’s Avengers offers a new, quirky experience of what you’ve undoubtedly experienced many times over — and it’s hopefully even funnier in brick form.
