Blizzard has given South African Hearthstone players a rare opportunity to compete in international tournaments by hosting a qualifying tournament in Cape Town on 13 May 2016.
The event will run from 13 – 15 May and will feature two stages – The Spring Tavern Heroes tournament and the Spring Preliminary.
Players can qualify for the Cape Town tournament by placing well in the Gauteng-based events this weekend.
This marks the first time that South Africa has been included in the European Hearthstone competitive scene, and the involvement of Blizzard in the event signifies a great opportunity for South Africans to compete directly with the best players in the world.
South African eSports is gaining momentum in South Africa, with international Hearthstone qualifiers and the upcoming R1,000,000 CS:GO Masters Series taking place this year.
However, it is still difficult for South African players to compete at an international level, making this Blizzard-endorsed Hearthstone tournament a rare opportunity for South African gamers to take a shot at professional gaming.
The Tavern Heroes Tournament will be held at the Roodebloem Studios in Cape Town on 13 May 2016 with the players that place in the top 32 set to be crowned Tavern Heroes. These players will then be eligible to join 128 of Europe’s best-ranked Hearthstone players in the Spring Preliminary, being held on 14 and 15 May 2016, for one of eight spots in the Europe Spring Championship. The winner of the Europe Spring Championship then advances to Hearthstone World Championships at Blizzcon and stands a chance at winning R14.5 million.
The Cape Town tournament will be hosted at Roodebloem Studios, Cape Town from 13-15 May 2016.
