Everyday South Africans give their first impressions of DOOM

MyGaming recently attended an event to celebrate the launch of the MSI Vortex and DOOM.

Along with press, bloggers, Youtubers, and streamers, a few lucky gamers were invited to Mweb’s MCave in Parow to check out the new hardware and try out DOOM for themselves.

After a few hectic rounds of multiplayer, a level or two of the campaign, and a quick opportunity to mess around with SnapMap, we sat down with a few of them to get their honest impressions of what they thought of DOOM so far:

“Rezaa”:

This one guy split me through the head…., it was awesome! The gore is very satisfactory and the gameplay just makes me feel good.

“Astrid”:

The general gameplay reminds me quite a bit of Halo. I liked the old-school DOOM and the multiplayer in this is quite different but it seems quite cool.

“Jade”:

DOOM was never really my thing – I have always been more of a Call of Duty guy. I’m also more of a console gamer. I will say I really enjoy the fast-paced, close encounter fighting and I think I will definitely play it better with a controller. In fact, I think I will pick it up for console.

“Francois”:

This new DOOM actually reminds me quite a bit of DOOM II. The game is very impressive graphically, especially with how bright and clean everything looks. I’m not sure if I enjoy the tactile feedback as much as Quake, but the game is fun to play and incredibly beautiful. It’s difficult to say whether the multiplayer will suck me but I can’t wait to play more which is a good sign.

“BW”:

This is the first FPS game I have played in a while. That means I might be slightly biased but what I have played so far is pretty frikken awesome!

“Clint”:

I must be honest, it took a bit of learning to get used to. It is a completely different game from the original DOOM and DOOM II. The gameplay actually reminds me a bit of Halo and once I got used to it I really started to enjoy it.

DOOM is available now for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
