Sony recently applied for new patents related to its head-mounted display glasses technology.
As reported by TechCrunch, Sony’s design looks like a pair of glasses with earbuds built into the arms, and features adjustable display modules which beam information onto the glasses’ lens for both eyes.
That’s about all we know about Sony’s mysterious entry into the augmented reality head-mounted display market, which is quickly emerging as the next possible nerdy gadget segment.
Drawing from other products in development, the obvious immediate comparison is Google Glass, which augments daily reality to visually display elements and details onto the lens for the wearer to see. In terms of gaming, this could transpose traditional HUD systems onto your headset, while the game screen itself remains dedicated to the game.
The glasses also contain a wireless networking chip which means that it could be used for communicative purposes, acting as a gaming headset.
