Sony 4K 55-inch and 65-inch 4K TV prices revealed

Sony has announced the pricing for its 4K televisions and streaming media device. Sony’s pre-order prices for the ultra-HD TVs are:

• $4,999.99 (R44,810) for the Sony 55-inch Bravia XBR-55X900A; and
• $6,999.99 (R62,730) for the 65-inch XBR-65X900A.

Both the 55-inch Bravia XBR-55X900A and 65-inch XBR-65X900A feature 4K Ultra HD, a 4K X-Reality PRO Picture Engine, two 65W front-facing speakers, TRILUMINOS display, Dynamic Edge LED backlighting, Motionflow XR 960, and wireless smartphone mirroring technology.

The two TVs come with 4 pairs of 3D glasses each.

Online orders and retail availability for the TVs will become available from 21 April 2013.

Sony also announced the pricing for its upcoming 4K FMP-X1 media player.

The player will retail for $699 and will be available in fall 2013.

The player features pre-loaded 4K content, with 10 movies on offer:

• The Amazing Spiderman;
• Total Recall;
• Bad Teacher;
• Salt;
• The Other Guys;
• Battle Los Angeles;
• The Karate Kid;
• That’s My Boy;
• Taxi Driver;
• The Bridge on the River Kwai.
