Samsung Electronics recently announced the launch of a new gamepad for its smartphones, but it is not clear whether the accessory will be coming to South Africa.
Asked what South Africans should expect from Samsung regarding its Smartphone Gamepad, Samsung SA provided the following statement:
“Samsung will communicate new devices as they become available and are unable to confirm the availability of the Galaxy Gamepad in South Africa at this time.”
In a press release announcing the launch of the Gamepad in “select European markets”, Samsung said that the controller can be attached to devices with screen sizes between 4-inches and 6.3-inches.
According to Samsung, the Galaxy Gamepad can also be used to create a console-like experience by connecting their Galaxy devices to a TV through an HDMI cable or AllShare Screen Mirroring.
Samsung also highlighted the following key specifications of the device:
- Compatibility: Android 4.1 and up (optimised for Android 4.3 and up)
- Connectivity: Bluetooth v3.0, NFC (compatible with Samsung device running Android 4.3 and up)
- Dimensions: 137.78 x 86.47 x 31.80mm
- Weight: 195g
- Battery: 160mAh, rechargeable
