Both the slimmer revision of the PlayStation 4 and the more powerful PS4 Pro have been officially announced by Sony and are set to launch this year.
As the PlayStation 4 Slim product revision is now the new standard PlayStation 4 model, we’ve compared its specifications to the PS4 Pro specifications released by Sony in order to determine how much of an improvement the more expensive device really is.
Both new PlayStation 4 models are based on AMD’s Polaris graphics architecture, which plays a large role in the reduced size of the PlayStation 4 and its increased power efficiency.
Coupled with an increased clock speed, AMD’s Polaris architecture also allows the PlayStation 4 Pro to reach a level of performance previously unexplored by consoles.
If its TFLOPs measurement is accurate, the PlayStation 4 Pro will struggle to output native 4K at a smooth framerate, and will instead rely on up-scaling and various performance optimisations at higher resolutions.
Despite this compromise, the high-end console looks to offer both higher resolution gameplay and better performance than the base model in 1080p.
Check out the specifications of the two consoles below:
