You’re probably looking at the picture at the top of this article wondering what kind of ancient radio device that is.
That’s a lunchbox computer, which has admittedly faded from the mainstream PC market, although it does still have an element of charm about its design.
Lunchbox computers are essentially fold-out PCs with a case on the back of the monitor, which allows you to use full desktop components in your rig.
This lunchbox PC is called the FlexPAC III, and boasts three monitors along with support for an SLI graphics card setup.
Each monitor is a 17-inch Full HD display which folds out from the “lunchbox” when deployed, allowing you to game or work on three monitors with relatively small bezels.
Portable PC retailers ACME Portable have continued to produce lunchbox computers, so you could technically purchase a FlexPAC III with the latest gaming hardware inside.
Below are the specifications of the FlexPAC III:
- LCD Displays: 17.3-inch Full HD 1,920 x 1,080 LED x3
- Processor: Intel Core i7 6th Gen CPU
- Memory: 64GB DDR4
- Video: Max two dual-width, full length graphics cards
- Expansion Bays: 2x 5.25-inch + 1x 2.5-inch
- Power Supply: 850W 100-240V PSU
If you are interested in creating a retro portable gaming PC, you will need to get your lunchbox PC custom-built by online retailers such as ACME Portable or BSI.
