Massive price increase for graphics card memory

The price of memory used in graphics cards has risen by 30%, according to sources speaking to DigiTimes.

The price of VRAM in August surged to $8.50 from its price of $6.50 last month.

The report said the price increase is fueled by RAM manufacturers Samsung and SK Hynix allocating VRAM production capacity to producing memory for servers and mobile devices.

Following the reallocation of manufacturing capacity, server RAM now accounts for 27% of Samsung’s overall RAM capacity – up from 12%.

Samsung currently supplies 55% of the world’s VRAM, followed by SK Hynix at 35% and Micron at 10%.
