Nvidia CEO says graphics processors will replace CPUs

28 September 2017

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has said that graphics processing units will replace traditional processors in the future, SegmentNext reports.

Speaking at the GPU Technology Conference in China, Huang said Moore’s law has been nullified as CPU performance has only increased by 10% annually.

Moore’s Law was an observation made by Intel cofounder Gordon Moore, which states the amount of transistors per square inch on integrated circuits will double every 18 months.

Huang said GPUs will replace CPUs due to their higher performance in parallel computing and deep learning applications.

Nvidia has partnered with Huawei, Lenovo, and Inspur to create a GPU-based server, which reportedly outperforms traditional CPU-powered servers in operational efficiency and cloud computing.
