HDMI 2.1 supports 8K resolution and Dynamic HDR

The HDMI Forum has launched its new specification for HDMI – HDMI 2.1.

As reported by Engadget, HDMI 2.1 is now available to vendors which have adopted HDMI 2.0.

It is also backwards compatible with all previous HDMI specifications.

HDMI 2.1 supports:

  • 48Gbps with a new high-speed HDMI cable.
  • Refresh rates of 60Hz for 8K and 120Hz for 4K.
  • Dynamic HDR.
  • 10K resolutions for specialty use.

HDMI 2.1 also introduces “Variable Refresh Rate”, which aims to eliminate lag for smoother gaming.
