Building a desktop PC by yourself can be a laborious process. Even after considering every component and all the peripherals you’ll need, you still need to figure out how you’ll assemble it.

Gaming laptops cut out all these pesky decisions and give you all that gaming goodness in an excellent little mobile package.

If money were no object, I’d buy myself the ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 gaming laptop for R62,499 on Evetech.

ASUS ROG Strix Side profile

A Ryzen 9-5900HX processor and an Nvidia Geforce RTX 3080 graphics card with 16 GB GDDR6 VRAM will have you stop worrying whether your system will be able to run a game for quite some time to come.

The laptop’s enormous processing power combines with the 17.3-inch (43.9 cm) 300 Hz display, which means you won’t have to worry about screen tearing or fiddling around in your graphical settings to eke out every last frame possible.

The SCAR 17 has four heatsinks with four fan outlets to counteract the heat build-up from the high-performance components. However, the drawback of such effective cooling is loud fan noise when pushing the machine to its limits.

All your multi-tasking needs are met by 32 GB of DDR4 RAM (which you can upgrade to 64 GB) so that you can open as many Chrome tabs as you want without your PC combusting.

Your game library will feel right at home on the 2 TB SSD, keeping load times low and instant gratification levels high.

I’ll admit all is not perfect in gaming laptop land. The battery life is still absolutely abysmal at only about 4.5 hours, and the 1920 x 1080p screen means you miss out on a 4K display.

Regardless of a couple of drawbacks, you can do a lot worse than the incredibly powerful ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17.
