If you want a laptop that can handle absolutely everything, from gaming to design and productivity, then the ASUS ROG Flow X13 is for you.

Here’s why I’d buy this jack of all trades machine for R37,000 if money wasn’t part of the equation.

Features and specs

The main attraction of the Flow X13’s build is its 13.4-inch (34 cm) 2K fully touch screen display. It has a 360-degree convertible design to give you access to a laptop, tablet, stand, and tent mode for all your needs.

The Flow X13's Stand mode allows improved cooling performance.

If you are worried about dropping or scratching the display, ASUS has got you covered by using Corning Gorilla Glass to protect the touch screen.

The laptop easily handles productivity and creative workloads by combining a Ryzen 9 500HX CPU with 16 GB of LPDDR4X RAM.

This powerful processing is paired with an NVIDIA GeForce 3050 Ti, a 120 Hz screen refresh rate, and Adaptive-Sync support to put the laptop’s gaming performance on par with high-end gaming desktops.

You can increase the performance of this small laptop by using its Tent or Stand mode to lower its temperatures, which allows you to use the ASUS Armoury Crate program to boost its power draw and crank up the performance even more.

The Flow X13 comes equipped with a ROG XG Mobile Interface port, which allows you to connect the laptop with an external GPU (which you’ll have to buy separately) to get the most power possible.

Another advantage the Flow X13 offers its users is a compact fast-charging 100W USB Type-C adapter that can charge your battery up to 50% in only 30 minutes – perfect for those who prioritise portability just as much as performance.

However, there are still drawbacks, like the smaller than average touchpad and keyboard. Battery life also isn’t stellar when pushing the machine to the peak of its gaming performance, but this is standard for all gaming laptops.

Finally, this model only comes with 1 TB M.2 NVMe storage, which will be used up quickly if you’re gaming and doing productivity-related tasks on this machine.

Below you’ll find a table summarizing the Flow X13’s specifications:
