Having just launched their first 55nm GPUs in January, with the GTX 285 and GTX 295, Fudzilla reports that Nvidia is already hard at work on a new 45nm fabrication process.
The GT214 is the card billed to take up the performance sector of the new 45nm GPU range, and is expected to launch in the third quarter of this year (July – September). The GTX 200 cards launched in June 2008, giving them a a run of one year as Nvidia’s flagship high-end platform.
The card will have a TDP of around 100W, requiring significantly less power than the outgoing GTX 200 range which gobble between 182W and 236W on the single GPU iterations.
It will also be the last true high-end DirectX 10 card from Nvidia, with theGT300 due to land shortly before Christmas supporting DirectX 11.
With the GT300 coming before the end of the year, we see the GT214 as a sort of stopgap platform, or a chance for Nvidia to optimize their new 45nm fabrication process.
