The Pebble ePaper smartwatch has surpassed its initial fundraising target of $100,000 on Kickstarter in spectacular fashion, raising over $4.9 million and breaking all previous records.
Allerta, the company behind the idea, opened the Kickstarter page a week ago to try and amass funding for the project.
Kickstarter is a fundraising initiative where companies can promote their ideas in the hopes of receiving funding from the public via donations.
The watch will be compatible with iOS 5 and Android 2.3 or higher. It features a 1.26 inch 144 x 168 pixel black and white backlit ePaper display. Also present is Bluetooth 2.1, four control buttons, a vibrating motor, and a three-axis accelerometer.
Pebble will be able to receive notifications for calls, e-mails and messages. It can also control music from Spotify, iTunes and Pandora.
Developers can also put together their own apps using the Pebble SDK.
Pre-order pricing is currently $115, with deliveries expected sometime in September 2012. The final retail price for the watch will be $150.

Where can i order one? I haven’t worn a watch in 10 years. I think its time.. Decent watches costs around R2000+ So this i think will be money well spent.
