According to Digitimes, Intel is readying for a massive price cut across its Core 2 and Pentium DualCore CPU ranges.
Unfortunately, the i7 will not be coming down in price.
Intel already made significant price cuts across the Core 2 range in late January. The new price cuts target some of the CPUs that were left out of the original trimming, but the Q8300 will be back for its second reduction in 6 months.

This is not the first price cut that the Q8300 has seen. In January the CPU was slashed from $224 to $183.
The new price cut takes it right down to $163, making total reduction of $61.
The reduction will surely put pressure on AMD to bring down the price of their Phenom II CPUs.
The Q8300 competes quite closely with AMD’s Phenom II 920, losing by a slight margin in the performance stakes. However, at $33 cheaper the Q8300 may be said to offer better value, a situation which AMD will want to avoid.
