ATi will release DX11 graphics card in 2009

20 May 2009

According to Fudzilla, ATi will be bringing out its RV870 GPU later this year. The new GPU will apparently launch around September.

The codename RV870 has yet to be branded for retail, but we are guessing something along the lines of the HD 5000 series. It will be the world’s first 40nm DirectX 11 graphics card, but there is a good chance that Nvidia will release its own DX11 GPU at around the same time. We don’t see Nvidia leaving the 2009 Christmas season to ATi.

The new graphics cards will be arriving at around the same time as Windows 7 and Direct X 11.

The battle for the king of current generation graphics hardware has been fought tooth and nail between Nvidia and ATi, with the two companies trading blows at different price points. We can only hope that come Q4 2009, competition in the graphics card market will be as strong.
