AMD’s Senior Vice President of platforms, Rick Bergman, told The Inquirer in an interview that AMD is not particularly worried about Intel’s entry into the graphics card market next year with Larrabee.
When asked about Intel’s entry into the GPU market, Bergman answered “I don’t know what Larrabee is yet, so we’re not waiting around.” indicating that AMD is going ahead with its DX 11 40nm plans regardless of what Intel does.
Bergman went on with “Intel’s a big company and at some juncture they may do graphics right,” adding “we haven’t seen them demonstrate that capability yet.”
In the same interview Bergman stated that AMD is not interested in going into a price war with Nvidia. “Are we interested in winning share by losing money on every GPU we ship? No,” said Bergman when asked if AMD would consider undercutting Nvidia with pricing at the low end of the market, a segment that Nvidia is still strong in.
