AMD HD5850 and HD5870 in 2009?

25 August 2009

There is currently a rumour circulating that AMDs DirectX 11 GPU range, codenamed ‘Cyprus’,  may succeed the current 4800 GPU series.

Fudzilla suggests that the new DirectX 11 graphics processors could possibly be announced as the 5800 series after a full list of features and ATI HD 5800 logos were published on VR-Zone. The card has also been pictured by Chiphell which shows it to have dual cooling slots as well as two DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort outputs.

The pictured cards may in fact be the HD5850 and the HD5870. The key features of these cards are reportedly:

•    1GB of DDR5 memory

•    Support for up to three displays

•    Accelerated Video Transcoding (AVT)

•    Open GL 3.1 support

•    ATI Crossfire support

•    PCI Express 2.0 support

The launch for the cards will be on September 10th although the official product launch will only be in October, set to coincide with the release of Windows 7.
