Acer has unveiled the latest addition to its monitor family, the S6 S276HL-01. Acer says the S6 is destined for EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) markets. MyGaming asked Acer for pricing details, but the company has not yet settled on a recommended retail price.
The company appears to have noticed that gamers are looking for high-performance IPS displays and have come to the table with a successor to the S5.
The S276HL-01 is a 27-inch widescreen monitor in a 16:9 aspect ratio with an IPS LED-backlit panel. The design is very similar to the S5 and unfortunately comes with the same restrictions because all the ports are built into the stand at the bottom, which means that mounting it to the wall with VESA-compliant mounts is not going to work.
The IPS panel sports a 1920 x 1080 resolution and has the wide viewing angles that IPS panels are capable of, allowing one to sit up to 178-degrees to the horizontal or vertical planes and still get excellent colour reproduction and a clear picture. Video inputs are covered for both PCs and game consoles or Blu-Ray players, with one VGA port, two HDMI, 1.4a ports and an MHL connector.
The MHL connector allows you to plug in your phone with an MHL connection and output the contents of the phone’s screen to your monitor. This allows you to show off your recent holiday pictures to the family, or hook up a wireless controller for some light gaming. Its even possible with some phones and tablets that have the MHL connector to have Bluetooth devices like a keyboard an mouse paired to get some work done on the internet.
The list of phones with an MHL connector is pretty short but you can find a continually updated list at MeetHML.com. The latest batch of Samsung Galaxy “S” devices in the high-end markets all carry MHL capability.
