Silverstone Raven RV04 chassis a spacious, versatile behemoth

Silverstone is a well-known chassis manufacturer that makes some very weird and interesting designs. At the top of their lineup is the Raven family, a group of behemoth chassis that would give you serious biceps if you lug it to a LAN often enough.

The company has recently announced a newcomer to the lineup with the RV04. It has less metal and more plastic compared to older designs and it sports a flipped motherboard layout, although it puts the PSU back on the top this time round.

The RV04 now has the USB ports and front-panel audio jacks built into the right side of the chassis, with the front dominated by a single front panel with some lines etched into the plastic and the traditional three strikes on the panel. The right side is bare with no vents or lights to speak of. The front panel swings open on an arm connected to the DVD drive bay, revealing two DVD drive bays.

The front 180mm fans are fed lots of air through the grilles and the front panel doesn’t restrict airflow like it does in other case designs. The interior looks roomy enough, supporting up to three extra-long graphics cards, motherboards up to and including the server-sized SSI-EEB standard, up to seven 3.5-inch hard drives and four 2.5-inch drives. Its probably one of the most versatile chassis I’ve seen in a while, excluding the massive Corsair 900D.

Silverstone has yet to announce availability and pricing, although at 11kg each you can bet there’ll be a hefty shipping fee included in the price. There’ll only be a black version and it comes with a side panel window option.
