Mad Catz is better known for the Cyborg R.A.T family of mice and they are popular with gamers looking for something more personal and more customisable. The new addition to the R.A.T family is the M.O.U.S.9. Its an extension of everything that went into the R.A.T 9 but now works using Bluetooth, drops some of the high-end features and comes in a new colour – Gloss Red.

Mad Catz says the M.O.U.S.9 is shipping to retailers in the US and Europe today at $129.99 or approximately R1,198 at the current exchange rate. Local distributor of Mad Catz products, Comet Computing, said that the M.O.U.S.9 is still making its way to SA shores, and therefore does not know what the landing cost will be. Comet Computing was willing to guesstimate that it would cost around R1,500.

The M.O.U.S.9 removes the adjustable weights and the customisability seen in the R.A.T 5 and 9. You can change the palm rest’s position but the thumb rest is in a fixed position. Its more made of plastic than the original R.A.T which had a good bit of metal injected into it.

Battery life, though, is quoted at a year with a single AA battery. The USB Bluetooth connector stows away inside the M.O.U.S.9 and there’s a carry bag as well. Mad Catz says the product is aimed more at the office worker than gamer and they felt that the M.O.U.S.9 better suits those uses.

The optics have changed as well, dropping down to a precision optical laser tracking unit with resolutions up to 990DPI. The thumb-able “Precision Aim” button drops the DPI for precise movements like pixel-level editing in Photoshop or sniping someone in Counter-Strike when you’re taking a break from work.

Mad Catz says the M.O.U.S.9 is shipping to retailers in the US and Europe today at $129.99 or approximately R1,198 at the current exchange rate.
