ASUS MX299Q Ultrawide monitor in SA?

ASUS has finally joined in the niche market of ultra-wide monitors with the MX299Q, sporting a 2560 x 1080 resolution that promises to make games look better by offering more to see in your peripheral vision, and allowing movie fans to watch their favourite films in the native 21:9 resolution that they’re commonly shot in.

MyGaming reached out to local ASUS representatives for comment on pricing and local availability dates, but they did not respond before publication, leaving us to wonder if we will see its glorious wideness on our shores.

The MX299Q has an AH-IPS panel that has better performance than regular IPS monitors and has superior viewing angles and colour reproduction to TN panels that you see in other, cheaper monitors on the market. The MX299Q also has an integrated sound bar developed by Bang & Olufsen and an overall design inspired by a sundial.

Like other ultra-wide monitors, the MX299Q offers desktop real estate equivalent to two 17-inch monitors with a 5:4 aspect ratio and can be used to run two full-screen apps snapped to either side. Like its competitors, it can also be set to use half of the screen for your main computer’s display while allowing you to plug in a video source into the HDMI input and play that content on the right-hand side of the screen.

The connectivity is very well-covered with Displayport and dual-link DVI on board as well as a HDMI port that also functions as an MHL port to allow for the connection of smartphones and tablets to the screen to show off photos and videos. The monitor has a frameless bezel and doesn’t have any rough or sharp edges on the front, removing any distractions and dust build-up.
