Asus R9 280 DirectCU II priced, dated for SA

ASUSTek South Africa announced the launch of the new ASUS R9 280 DirectCU II graphics card on 10 March, confirming a recommended retail price of R5,349.

The card will arrive on our shores at the end of March 2014 (the international release date is 10 March).

ASUS claims the R9 280 DirectCU II runs up to 20% cooler and up to three times quieter than reference designs.

The new card has a base clock speed of 874MHz, which boosts to 980MHz. The card also boasts 3GB of GDDR5 video memory and support for resolutions of up to 2560 x 1600.

Other features include DIGI+, a voltage-regulation module, and GPU Tweak which allows users to tune their graphics settings and broadcast live gameplay.

    Well I paid 6k for the R9 290, Granted the reference cooler on mine sounds like a jet engine taking off and it runs at 90 degrees standard but still outperforms this by far.is this maybe a little expensive ?
