Alienware’s new Area 51 ultimate gaming PC

Alienware recently announced the latest iteration in its Area 51 range, the Alienware Area 51 2014 – a gaming PC which is definitely up there when it comes to…striking visual design.

The Area 51 range is Alienware’s flagship desktop offering, and the 2014 version promises “beyond ultra HD visuals”, whatever that means.

“You’ve never seen anything like the Alienware Area 51. We re-imagined this system from the inside out, and it performs true to our legacy of excellence. It’s a perfect convergence of power and design,” the company said.

The new Area 51 features:

  • An all-new Triad chassis which provides better cooling and easy access to the internals of the machine;
  • The new Intel Haswell E 6-core and 8-core CPUs;
  • The new Intel X99 motherboards and support for up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM;
  • Support for up to 3 graphics cards.

The Area 51 will come with Alienware’s latest version of its Command Centre software – version 4.0 – which allows gamers to not only customise 9 light-zones on the chassis, but easily overclock their rig.

With 3 GPUs, a Haswell E processor, and 32GB of DDR4 RAM, it’s tough to think which screen could possibly handle all the graphical power this triangular PC will likely put out.

Oh, wait, it seems Alienware has the answer for that as well – the Dell UltraSharp 34-inch curved monitor.

Dell, which owns Alienware, revealed its gaming-focused monitor a few weeks back, which features a WQHD display (3440×1440), a 21:9 aspect ratio, and a 34-inch screen over a slightly curved surface.

If that is not enough real estate for you, Alienware suggests you put three ultra HD monitors alongside one another, and give yourself a 11520×2160 canvas to spill digital blood on.

OH, so that’s what they meant by “beyond ultra HD visuals” – gotcha now.

The Area 51 and Dell’s curved 34-inch screen are both set to launch before the end of 2014, with pricing not yet available for either piece of gaming hardware. But it’s safe to say this kind of kit is not going to come cheap.

If you are still are not convinced that the Area 51 is the business, here’s a trailer showing monsters being set on fire in Evolve.

I can hazard a guess at what the general consensus is going to be, but let me ask anyway – what do you guys think of the new Area 51? Let us know in the comments and forum.
