AMD is preparing to unleash a series of new CPUs over the next few weeks.
First off, they have a new Sempron single core part punting a 2.8GHz clock speed. The Sempron 145 will sell for a around €35 (R333), making it a super cheap offering that would suit basic computational tasks well, or even supply the brain for a lightweight media PC (just don’t expect to do any serious video encoding with it).
More exciting is the new Phenom II X2 560 Black Edition. This Callisto-based dual core is the highest clocked AMD dual-core CPU yet released, packing a hefty 3.3GHz on each core. Priced at just €100 (R950), it may represent a solid value offering for gamers with its unlocked multiplier and anticipated overclocking headroom.
The top of the range is also looking to be broadened with a new six-core monster; the 1075T which is based on the Thuban core and is clocked at a relatively meagre 3.0GHz. No price is currently available for this new CPU.
