Intel’s Skylake Core i5-6600K and Core i7-6700k will debut at Gamescom 2015

Intel’s 14nm Skylake processors have been on the minds of hardware enthusiasts as well as gamers alike for some time now. Finally, we have a reveal date.

Focusing primarily on gamers first, overclockers likely falling into this category, Intel will unveil their Core i5-6600K and Core i7-6700k as well as the Z170 Express chipsets come early August, at Gamescom – that’s in Cologne, Germany and takes place from August 5th to the 9th.

Both the 6600K as well as the 6700K CPUs are quad core, with the latter (being an i7) supporting Hyper Threading.

Intel Skylake Architecture

Serving as the transition CPU for DDR3 to DDR4 RAM, Skylake CPUs will support both RAM standards and require an LGA 1151 socket.

Best of all, as “K” marked CPUs, they’re overclockable and will arrive with fairly substantial frequencies out of the gate: the 6600K will clock in at a respectable 3.5GHz, while the 6700K comes in at a mighty 4.0GHz.

With 4 cores/8 threads at 4.0GHz/4.20GHz base/turbo frequency, 8MB of cache and a remarkable TDP of 95W, the Core i7-6700k looks to be quite the CPU.

According to WCCF Tech, Intel will follow those CPUs up with the rest of their Skylake range: including the i7-6700/6700T, Core i5-6600, 6500, 6400, 6600T, 6500T and 6400T, and H170, B150 chipsets and H110 chipset.

The successor to Skylake and first 10nm CPUs will be Intel’s Canonlake architecture. We can’t wait to see what it can do.
