The internet is buzzing amidst reports that international tech journalists have just received their test samples of Nvidia’s soon to be released GTX 580 graphics card. Now, Nvidia doesn’t care about South Africa and has no local representation, so we don’t expect to be getting one of these babies to play with anytime soon. AMD’s HD 6800 cards are on their way however.
Everything you need to know about the GTX 580 has already been posted on various forums, and benchmarks have already been leaked.
Although Nvidia has not officially announced any details regarding the card, leaks springing up from testers state that the card runs at 772MHz on the core, has 512 shaders and 2200MHz memory. The GTX 580 will also run cooler and quieter than the GTX 480, thanks to a redesigned housing.
The GTX 580 is thought to be more of an update to the GTX 480 than a complete overhaul.
Most importantly, the cards are said to launch on November 9th.
So the GTX 580 will run faster, quieter and cooler than Nvidia’s current king of the performance hill, but whether it can compete with AMD’s soon to be released HD 6900 series will depend on pricing. Once advantage it will have over AMD’s new high-end range is that it will be available first.
